Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) today announced Auckland businessman Des Brennan would take over as its chief executive.
Brennan begins his role on Monday, replacing Simon Wickham, who has moved on to become chief executive of the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City.
YNZ chairman Arthur Stewart said Brennan's appointment was timely as the organisation was embarking on a new strategic plan.
"We're very pleased to have secured Des, who brings aboard a wide range of experience in management and sound sporting knowledge to our organisation," Stewart said in a statement.
Brennan has considerable experience in management and business leadership of both commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
He leaves a role in an Auckland management consulting group and his recent posts include international manager for Montana Wines and general manager of Auckland Showgrounds.
Brennan has been a director at Netball New Zealand for three years and was involved in America's Cup yachting sponsorship for Television New Zealand in the 1992, 1995 and 2000 regattas.
"New Zealand Yachting has an outstanding history of achievement and adventure and I look forward to coming aboard as chief executive and to help the team lead yachting in New Zealand," Brennan said.
