Team New Zealand wheeled their AC72 catamaran out of the shed the first time this morning and attached their wingsail which is bigger than the wing of a Boeing 747.
It was the culmination of 18 months' work and done before Saturday's public show at the Viaduct Harbour and next week's planned first sail.
Even though the designers engineers and shore crew would have preferred to keep the AC72 under wraps for a few more days while cosmetic work is completed there, was no hiding it.
At 40m, it's bigger than a wing on the Boeing 747 and twice as high and three times the area of the wing on the AC45s that have been raced in the America's Cup World Series regattas.
Emirates Team New Zealand are building a second boat for next year's America's Cup regatta in San Francisco and can test their first boat for a maximum of 30 days before January 31 next year.
