KEY POINTS:
Looking after their resources will be essential for Team New Zealand going into the round-robin competition.
They will be looking to do enough to get through without burning out their sails or sailors.
Teams are allowed to use 45 sails during the Louis Vuitton Cup.
For the top teams it is a big deal using your sails smartly. What you want to do is get through the round robins and not use up too many new sails.
For the people further down the pack there is no point in saving sails if you are possibly out of here in three weeks.
How people are managed will be very important.
Because the Louis Vuitton Cup is so compressed - there are two races a day in the first round - the people that do the hard work - like the grinders, the bowman, mastman and pitman - are going to feel the pinch.
Don't expect to see Dean Barker or Terry Hutchinson or any of the afterguard off the boat but in those areas of high workload there will be some changes.
Managing the sailing team is important because you want them to be firing for the semifinals. But you have to do enough to get there.
At the moment the weather here is awful. The wind is not that high but it is cold so it will be dense. When the wind is dense it has more power. So that will impact on boat configuration.
Team New Zealand and Oracle have long bulbs and a shorter one. We'll have to wait and see what they use depending on the conditions.
It's good Team New Zealand have a hard race first up against Mascalzone Latino.
Mascalzone are sailing really well. They seem to have their act together, starting wise. Their tactician Vasco Vascotto has grown with confidence. He is a bit of a character.
Their new boat ITA 99 looks a good package. They could take a race off the big three and that makes tonight's race against Team New Zealand interesting.
Despite that, Team New Zealand and BMW Oracle Racing will go through in a doodle although I'd be surprised if any of the challengers go through unscathed.
The form book says that Luna Rossa will finish third and it will be all on for the fourth spot.
But from Act 13 maybe it looks like Luna Rossa could have a battle on their hands.
Mascalzone Latino have really stepped up. They could tip over Luna Rossa.
Luna Rossa have never looked as strong as Team New Zealand and Oracle and now Mascalzone have finished ahead of them in the fleet-racing regatta.
That Italian derby is going to be one to watch.
The Spanish will be there or thereabouts. They have a good boat, they are fast, have a good programme but suffer at times through breakages and unforced errors.
It would be a surprise to see anyone outside that group make the semifinals.
