KEY POINTS:
New Zealand sailor Adam Minoprio has secured a place in next year's yachting world tour with a second-place finish in the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia.
Competing in his second world tour final this year, Minoprio, 23, was beaten 3-1 by Australian Peter Gilmour.
Minoprio said the race had been hard, having to come from behind to beat world champion Ian Williams in the semifinals.
The win was the 48-year-old Gilmour's second Monsoon Cup victory in four editions, as he had also won the inaugural cup in 2005.
Minoprio who scored a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against defending Monsoon Cup champion and WMRT champion Williams in the semifinal, could not match the experience of Gilmour although he was all-square after two races.
The final capped a week of racing for the 12 teams who competed for the highest prizemoney in match racing.
Minoprio, who received RM150,000 ($77,500) for his effort, said Gilmour did a fantastic job throughout the final.
