Kiwi crew James Turner and Finn Drummond are handily placed after two days of racing in the Junior 470 world championships in Takapuna.
Turner and Drummond lie in second place, three points behind leaders Simon Sivitz and Jas Farneti of Italy, after showing some good, consistent form in the difficult gusty conditions yesterday. The young New Zealand team finished third in both their races.
But they were upstaged by the impressive Italian crew, who after placing ninth in Saturday's opening race won their next three races to take the overall lead.
Australian brothers Matthew and Robert Crawford, who led after the first day of racing, slipped back to fourth yesterday, on equal points with Dutch crew Dirk Bennan and Rogier Weijers.
The competition is just as fierce in the women's fleet with just three points separating the top three crews.
