Tricky conditions at the Finn world championships in Estonia have seen many of the favourites struggle and Josh Junior is the best placed of the Kiwis in 15th after two days of sailing.
For the second day running, light and tricky winds of 7-8 knots hit the fleet of 86 sailors and it has seen some of the favourites pocket some high scores. The exception was Great Britain's Andrew Mills, who has opened out a 17-point lead after only four races.
Junior collected a second and 11th in today's two races to jump 22 places to 15th overall. Andrew Murdoch also improved his position, from 26th to 23rd, but Matt Coutts slipped from third to 18th after finishing 43rd and 37th in today's races.
The scoring system is heavily weighted towards the end of the regatta but the Kiwis will want to ensure they are in the gold fleet when the sailors are split.
"It's plenty tricky and it's really hard to predict what's going to happen as you can't really see the pressure, so all you can do is get a good start and play the percentages and work your way up,'' Junior said.
