With the start of 2016 Volvo Sailing and Boating Week just over three weeks away yachting and boating clubs around New Zealand are gearing up to welcome in the public, and to showcase and celebrate the sport.
The nationwide initiative kicks off Saturday February 13 and runs for just over a week with participating clubs offering activities each day.
Because each club designs its own Volvo Sailing and Boating Week activity, offerings around the country vary from public open days, club house tours, family and friendly barbeques, to try sailing and boating opportunities on all manner of boats, dinghies, boards and more.
First launched in 2014, Yachting New Zealand expects the event to be every bit as successful as the two previous editions, which saw dozens of clubs taking part, plenty of local and national media attention, and newcomers giving sailing and boating a go around New Zealand.
"With three weeks to go we're seeing more and more clubs registering to take part again, and we're adding to the list of what's happening and where every day," says Yachting New Zealand chief executive David Abercrombie.
