Racing in the Louis Vuitton Trophy sailing regatta was cancelled today because of high winds.
Principal race officer Peter Reggio said the wind strength was 16 to 19 knots this morning and expected to rise above 25 knots over the rest of the day.
He said it was important to protect the equipment, as well as the sailors from their competitive instincts.
The match-racing regatta involves eight teams taking turns to use two Team New Zealand America's Cup yachts, with another boat, provided by new cup holders Oracle, as a back-up.
Reggio said conditions were looking good for a resumption of sailing tomorrow.
Team NZ is leading the event with three wins from three races, one win ahead of three other crews.
