Conditions look great for maxi Konica Minolta's tilt at the race record for the Coastal Classic yacht race from Auckland to Russell.
Southerly breezes of 20 to 25 knots are forecast for Friday morning's start, greatly aiding the bid of the Wellington super maxi to better 7 hours and 20 minutes.
The record was set in 1996.
Race organisers have been concerned by the extremely variable weather forecast, but have decided to start the 230 plus strong fleet off Devonport as scheduled at 10am.
The southerly could build to 40 knots later on Friday.
