Peter Burling and Blair Tuke will claim a second sailing world championship title in the 49er class in Santander, Spain.
They are 36 points clear heading into the medal race tomorrow after a fifth placed finish overnight. It's an unassailable advantage for the Kiwi pair.
Meanwhile, Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie fell short in their bid to defend their women's 470 title.
Coming into the medal race second, and needing to finish higher than the first-placed Austrian crew to clinch the world title, the pair slumped to sixth.
Aleh said she and Powrie didn't have the best finale. She said they were disappointed with the way they sailed and didn't give themselves a chance.
