New Zealand's Olympic silver medal-winning sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke hold the overall lead, heading into the final day of the 49er European Championships in Denmark overnight (NZT).
The pair sailed two strong races on the fifth day of the event, coming fourth in the first before winning the second, and hold a seven-point lead over Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign from Great Britain.
Fellow Kiwis Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski, who had the lead earlier in the regatta, sit in eighth place following a ninth and a 12th in the light air races. Crucially they have secured a place in the top eight, which means they will sail in tomorrow morning's final, with those placed ninth-16th relegated into a petit final from which only one crew will advance.
In the women's field, world No 1 49erFX crew Alex Maloney and Molly Meech will go into the final race in third overall, holding 80 points after a second and a 12th in racing on day five. Leaders Ida Nielsen and Marie Olsen of Denmark are well out in front of the pack on 61 points.
Tomorrow's final races for both the men in the 49er and the women in the 49erFX are worth double points and cannot be discarded, leaving the stakes high.
