Val Adams and Joseph Parker were winners of the weekend and surprise surprise, the Warriors yet again make our losers list. Chris Rattue and Wynne Gray list their winners and losers from the sporting weekend.

WINNERS

Val Adams
She's back. Yahooo. The shot put superstar launched her best throw in two years to win the Diamond League event in Morocco. It's a sign that she is on track to win a third Olympic gold, after injuries laid her low. - CR

Joseph Parker
Obvious choice after out-pointing Carlos Takam in Saturday night's world title eliminator. He looked vulnerable and tired at times, but came through what many described as his first big test. His trainer Kevin Barry had turned down Takam twice last year, with Parker still deep on a learning curve. Barry looked relieved on Saturday night, as if his man had dodged a bullet. - CR

Invaluable 12 rounds of boxing education as he outpoints Carlos Takam and eyes up an IBF world title fight as promoter Dean Lonergan dukes it up outside the ropes with illegal live-streamers. - WG

Nik "The Greek" Charalampous
The Aucklander not only won his fight on the Joseph Parker-Carlos Takam undercard, he scored highly with a rare bit of sportsmanship . Charalampous insisted that the decision should have gone in Ghana-born Fijian Joseph Kwadjo's favour. - CR

Tim Slade
Won both races at the Winton circuit in Victoria after eight years and more than 220 Supercar starts without a victory. - WG

Lisa Carrington
Another reminder of the Kiwi paddler's class as she nailed gold in the K1 200 and silver in the K1 500 World Cup sprints in Germany. - WG

LOSERS

Warriors
It's difficult to know what to say. The Warriors have a bye this week, and it already looks like bye bye playoffs. They were horrible against Canberra in New Plymouth and there will be high profile casualties, with prop Ben Matulino amongst those expected to be axed against Brisbane. - CR

It was all over at halftime as the Warriors stared down Canberra's massive lead. Even the post-match Isaac Luke haka to the crowd seemed soggy. - WG

Hibernian
Broke a 114-year drought to win the Scottish FA Cup, a victory promptly spoiled by a pitch invasion from their fans which required intervention from mounted police and saw Rangers players given medals in the dressing room. - CR

Louis van Gaal
His uninspiring reign as Manchester United's manager is apparently over, with Jose Mourinho about to take over. Man U and Mourinho is a wild mix - get set for plenty of headlines. - CR

Sevens In the last tournament before Rio, New Zealand were demolished in their London Sevens quarterfinal, beaten 42-14 by USA and their speedster Perry Baker. - WG

So much hype about this bloke for the last knows how many years and bypassed by another coach for England's tour to Australia. - WG
