The NZ Blackjacks struck mens fours gold in the world bowls championships at Burnside yesterday.
Congratulations to the golden guys Ali Forsyth, Blake Signal, Mike Kernaghan and Mike Nagy on a flawless performance - and also to the Aussies Mark Casey, Aaron Wilson, Brett Wilkie and Barrie Lester on a valiant effort. No-one would have challenged the local side today.
In the morning final for the womens world triples crown, Australia also proved too accomplished for the gallant Welsh ladies winning 17-6 in a commanding performance.
For skipper Bec Van Asch, who dominated the main event - and also Natasha Scott - it was back-to-back titles, having won in 2012 with Karen Murphy in Adelaide, while Carla Krizanic, the newcomer of the trio, joined her rinkmates as dual gold medallists in Christ-church after their fours win with Kelsey Cottrell last week. This morning the Blackjacks have a second shot at gold this weekend when its combination of Angela Boyd and Jo Edwards sort out the world pairs crown with the richly talented combination of young Welsh stars Laura Daniels and Jess Sims.
Then at 1pm the biggest adrenalin rush of the past two weeks will feature on SKY-TVs direct television coverage when the mens singles final between local hero Shannon McIlroy and Canadas hard charger Ryan Bester will decide who should don the coveted singles crown for the next four years But a word of warning: Dont leave your seat in the grandstand or in front of the TV this afternoon, this final will be compelling, non-stop action viewing.
