Paralympics New Zealand powerlifter George Taamaru, of Auckland, has returned home with a silver medal after a lift of 232.5kg in the over 100kg class at the Asian Paralympic Committee Powerlifting Cup, in Kuala Lumpur.
The gold went to a Nigerian competitor with a lift of 237.5kg. Taamaru's effort matched his lift in September at the IWAS World Championships in Taipei, where he won a bronze medal.
Over the next two months he will continue with his training with the aim of gaining selection for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games in September.
