The New Zealand women's waterpolo team beat Australia 8-7 in Canberra last night, their first win in 30 years of trying.
The best-of-three series decider will be played tomorrow night.
New Zealand led 3-2 at the quarter but Australia were ahead 5-4 at halftime and 6-5 after three quarters.
This became 7-5 but lapses in concentration and poor options had the New Zealanders moving to 7-7.
The winner came through three-goal hero Koren Wilkinson with one minute 45 seconds remaining.
"We should still have won this game by five goals," Australian coach Greg McFadden said. "Even when 7-7, we had the counter and a bad shot was taken. The Kiwis threw the ball to the other end and scored the winner."
