New Zealand remained at the top of the table after an emphatic 11-6 victory over Canada A at the junior mens water polo tournament in Victoria, Canada yesterday.
It was only the second time in New Zealand water polo history that Kiwi male team has beaten Canada at international level -- the last being in 1991.
New Zealand began in blistering fashion with three quick Lachie Tijsen goals inside the first three minutes. Another to Ash Blythen saw the New Zealanders out to four-goal lead they would never surrender. They led 7-3 at halftime.
Wellington's Tijsen finished with four goals, as did Blythen while Richard Chambers, Ben Pye and Sam Williams all scored one.
The New Zealand youth team (under-17) lost their match 6-16 to the United States.
Both New Zealand teams are in Canada until January 1 before heading to The Netherlands for a training camp and games with other top Eurpoean nations.
