Washington Capitals player Daniel Winnik isn't afraid to put his body on the line for his team, and makes sure he leaves it all on the ice. Even if "it all" includes part of his right ear.
During the Capitals 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers, Winnik dropped to the ice to block a Reilly Smith shot late in the third period. The puck struck Winnik on the side of the head in what was a pretty frightening sequence.
Winnik stayed down on the ice for a few moments after the head shot before being taken to the locker room. Remarkably, the Capitals forward eventually made his way back onto the ice soon after.
Post-match, Capitals coach Barry Trotz was asked about Winnik's scary moment.
