New Zealand bowler Neil Wagner has broken a 93-year-old record with a brilliant debut for Lancashire in English county cricket.
The fiery left armer took 6-66 when Lancashire dismissed Nottinghamshire for 242 at Old Trafford in Manchester. Wagner was returning to action after breaking his hand while attempting to take a catch against Australia at Hagley Oval in late February.
Wagner's haul was the best by a Lancashire player on debut since Alfred Hall took 6-23 against Oxford in 1923.
Wagner said: "I got a bit of swing, which is something I have been working really hard on and it is lovely bowling with Duke balls that do help with swing. I felt a bit rusty at the start because the last game I played was about seven weeks ago...but I got back into quickly."
