The moment the Team Vestas Wind ran aground during the Volvo Ocean Race about 4am on Sunday has been caught on camera.
Travelling at 20 knots (37km/h) in the Indian Ocean while competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, the crew of Team Vestas Wind, including Kiwi yachtsmen Rob Salthouse and Tony Rae, was forced to abandon ship after running on Sunday morning (NZT).
The yacht had been competing in the second leg of the race, from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi, when it struck a reef and became stuck, leaving the crew trapped on the remote archipelago for three days before being rescued.
