Ronda Rousey was true to her word, taking a marine to the ball after he begged her for a date.
South Carolina marine Jarrod Maschert posted a Facebook video in August telling the mixed martial arts star that she was his "celebrity crush". More than four million people viewed it, a testament to Rousey's status as a world sports star.
Maschert continued on the post: " I love everything that you do, and I think that you are a phenomenal person which is why it would be my honour to take you to the Marine Corps Ball on December 11.
I really hope this doesn't get in the way of your training. I hope you take this into consideration, because if you do, you will truly be making my dream come true."
Rousey was devastated by her shock loss to Holly Holm in Melbourne last month and she had hoped to keep her attendance at the Marine Corps Ball this week low profile.
