Middleweight Dylan Andrews has made an unhappy return to action in the UFC after he was beaten via knockout by American Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 55 in Sydney today.
Andrews, the Gold Coast-based Kiwi, had been out for the past 11 months due to a shoulder injury and was stunned mid-way through the first round after he landed under Alvey following a takedown attempt.
Alvey then turned quickly and finished Andrews with strikes as the American moved to 24-6, 1NC for his career while Andrews fell to 17-6, 1NC.
Auckland-born Australian middleweight Robert Whittaker earned 'fight of the night' honours for his entertaining bout with Clint Hester (11-4), which resulted in a second-round TKO victory for Whittaker (13-4). Whittaker pocketed an extra US$50,000 for his efforts.
UFC Fight Night 55 was headlined by a middleweight bout between contenders Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping (25-7). Rockhold (13-2) won the fight via submission in the second round.
