Kiwi-born mixed martial arts fighter Dylan Andrews battled through a dislocated shoulder to score an impressive knockout victory over Papy Abedi in round three at UFC Fight Night 27 in Indianapolis today.
Andrews was thrown by Abedi in the first round and confirmed after the middleweight bout that his shoulder was dislocated before he was able to compose himself to deliver the knockout blow.
"I think when he judo tossed me in the first, I landed on my left shoulder and I heard a crack,'' Andrews said. "I'm sorry about my performance, after the shoulder went in the first, I just found it hard.''
Andrews is originally from Wellington and is now based on the Gold Coast and will hope to make a speedy recovery in time to compete at the rumoured UFC show in Australia at the end of the year.
Andrews, who was a semifinalist in season 17 of the television show The Ultimate Fighter, now owns a 17-4-1 MMA record and has won his past six bouts across various promotions.
