Throng.co.nz reports an average audience of 488,640 tuned into Prime's free coverage of the first innings of the World Cup Cricket final between New Zealand and Australia.
But ratings dropped for the second innings as the Black Caps' fortunes floundered, with an average audience of 420,470 watching Australia win the cup.
Another 356,180 on average watched the game on Sky Sport 3.
The cricket's high viewing stats impacted on other networks, Throng reports, with One News viewers dropping to 344,530 viewers, and 3News receiving just 122,530 viewers.
