Rising triathlon star Tayler Reid displayed his all-round talents at the second round of the Bay of Plenty Winter surf lifesaving series in Mount Maunganui today.
The Gisborne Boys' High School student demolished a handy field in the 2km beach run, then finished second behind Papamoa's Scott Cowdrey in the 6km board race in flat conditions at Mount Maunganui's Main Beach.
Reid was part of a dozen-strong contingent from Gisborne's Midway club, who used the event as the culmination of a two-day team building camp based at the Omanu club.
Reid, who is in the New Zealand under-19 triathlon squad, led home Tauranga Boys' College cross country star Hayden Reardon (Mount) in the beach run, with Papamoa's Cowdrey third.
Gemma Torrie (Midway) won the women's 2km beach race, from Omanu's Jessica Gadsby and Mount Maunganui's Emily Campbell.
