A major lesson for Christchurch triathlete Dylan McNeice heading into Saturday's Ironman New Zealand in Taupo.
McNeice is hoping to improve on his debut third placing in last year's race, after slipping to fourth place in his bid for a fourth consecutive title at the Challenge Wanaka iron distance race a fortnight ago.
McNeice says he made the mistake in Wanaka of not sticking to his proven race plan and he started racing to other people's strengths.
He says he'll simply put the blinkers on and focus on his own race.
Auckland's Cameron Brown is again the men's top seed as he chases a 12th title, while San Francisco's Meredith Kessler is back in her bid for a fifth consecutive New Zealand title.
