New Zealand triathlete Andrea Hewitt has finished third in the ITU World Cup race in Mooloolaba, Queensland, her first race of the year.
Australian Erin Densham won the Olympic distance race yesterday (Sunday), with Swiss Nicola Spirig second.
"My whole race was pretty good today for the first race of the season but I just couldn't hold on with Nicola at the end and congratulations to Erin, because she had such a great run today,'' Hewitt said.
Densham's victory started from the swim, where she was out of the water in a leading group of four that included Liz Blatchford, Laura Bennett and Hewitt.
Clark Ellice, the sole Kiwi in the men's field, finished 22nd in a race won by Hewitt's partner, Frenchman Laurent Vidal. Vidal asked for the New Zealand anthem to be played at the victory ceremony as a tribute to the city and people of Christchurch, where he and Hewitt spend the New Zealand summer living and training.
