Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce seems to have it all. He just won his third Super Bowl title and is going out with Taylor Swift - arguably the most popular relationship in the world right now.
The 34-year-old is the best tight end of his generation and has always been known to casual NFL fans since his debut season in 2013 but his relationship with Swift has taken his popularity to a whole different level, making him the face of the league.
Here are the key answers to questions being asked by newcomers to Travis Kelce’s NFL career.
Travis Kelce net worth?
Kelce signed a four-year deal with the Chiefs worth US$57.25m, with two years left on the deal.
According to Spotrac.com next season, Kelce will earn a base salary of US$12m and a workout bonus of US$250,000 and US$16,25m in 2025.
His career earnings since being drafted by Kansas City in 2013 is around US$76.9m. A huge amount of money but compared to his partner, he’s clearly not the breadwinner. Both Bloomberg and Forbes put Swift’s net worth at an estimated US$1.1 billion. And that’s on the low end of estimates.
Did Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl?
No. People seem to be asking this but he was too busy winning a Super Bowl by completing nine receptions and finishing with a game-high 93 yards.
How many Super Bowls has Travis Kelce won?
Kelce has won three Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs. Super Bowl LIV (2020, 31-20 over the 49ers), LVII (2023, 38-25 over the Eagles) and LVIII (2024, 25-22 over the 49ers).
Seems unlikely with two massive years left on his contract and the Chiefs strongly favoured to return to the Super Bowl for a third straight year. As long as Patrick Mahomes is in Kansas City, he signed a huge 10-year $450m deal last year, then Kelce will likely remain with the Chiefs until he finishes his career.
Kelce’s father Ed weighed in on talks of Travis retiring in the wake of a second Super Bowl win this week.
“I’ve heard these things about Travis retiring,” Ed Kelce told the New York Times. “The way he’s said it is Travis will play until his wheels come off. Travis will play until they say, ‘No, you may not,’ or, ‘Nobody wants you.’ I mean, he’s not foolish to try to come back from a catastrophic injury or something, to keep going and risk further physical troubles.”
“Never gonna happen,” his father added about an early retirement.
Kelce’s older brother Jason though could be on the verge of retirement after playing 13 seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jason, a Pro Bowl centre, looked to have said his farewells in the wake of the side’s playoff defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month.
“Still figuring it out,” Kelce told Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” Monday.
“I think if I still want to play, I’m going to play. I think right now we’re not far enough away from the last game. It’s emotional, it’s a long season, the end of the season quite frankly, awful. So I’m just going to take some time, rest, recoup and then figure it out.
“I think I’ll have an answer in the next couple weeks.”
Will Travis Kelce join Taylor Swift on Eras Tour?
It’s now the NFL off season and Kelce doesn’t have to report to training camp in late July. As Super Bowl champions the Chiefs will host the Thursday night game to begin the 2024 season on September 7. So he has a decent off season to do what he wants. Kelce joined Swift in Argentina for a concert in Buenos Aires when the Chiefs had a bye week in November.
Swift continues her Eras Tour in Melbourne later this week where she is performing three sold out concerts at the MCG before heading to Sydney for four more gigs. That’s followed by stints in Singapore and then a European leg which stretches across May, June, July and August.
