APNZ's Daniel Richardson takes a look at the sporting week in numbers
152 - Undefeated boxers Floyd Mayweather (44-0) and Saul `Canelo' Alvarez (42-0-1) have agreed to a bout in Las Vegas on September 14 that will be contested at the catchweight of 152 pounds. American Mayweather and Alvarez (Mexico) own titles at junior middleweight (154 pounds) but they agreed on the drop in what shapes to be a huge bout.
4 - James Maloney had only played four NRL games for the Melbourne Storm when he was snapped up by the Warriors in 2010. The five-eighth went on to register more than 500 points for the Auckland-based franchise during three fruitful seasons before he moved to Sydney to join the Roosters this year. Maloney capped his career progression recently when he was named to start at five-eighth for New South Wales in the first State of Origin game against Queensland next Wednesday.
14 - With only 14 test caps to his name, All Blacks wing Hosea Gear has pulled the pin on New Zealand rugby and will join French club Toulouse at the end of the season. The imposing left wing had a disjointed international career and flirted with the idea of heading overseas in 2011 when he was initially left out of the World Cup squad but eventually joined the side as injury cover for Mils Muliaina and moved to the Highlanders last season.
62 - The 44th annual World Series of Poker got underway in Las Vegas this week and there will be 62 events to be played with varying levels of buy-ins. The winner of each event is given their own bracelet as well as a stack of cash.
