It is the question we've all been pondering. How much would it cost to fill Richie McCaw's shoes?
Last night, in a crowded New Plymouth bar, the answer came - $2800.
That's what one Taranaki local paid for a pair of McCaw's hallowed Rugby World Cup boots at a fundraising auction for New Plymouth Boys' High School.
The All Black captain donated the size 12 boots, which he wore during the team's famous 2011 Rugby World Cup-winning campaign.
As McCaw and his men beat the Wallabies 29-28 in Brisbane last night, the boots were being auctioned to help fund a Boys' High rugby tour to the United States next May.
