Kristyna Pliskova has suffered potentially one of the dumbest injuries in tennis at the Jiangxi Open in China.
The third seed, who had shot out to a 3-0 lead over Japan's Nao Hibino, attempted to operate a stationary fan, bizarrely putting her thumb into the fan just as it whirred into life.
Pliskova immediately called for medical attention, and covered her face with a towel as the realisation sunk in, eventually having to retire as a result of the moment of madness.
Pliskova posted a photo on Instagram of her bandaged thumb, and said that the wound had been stitched up.
