A tough day at US Open qualifying for Marina Erakovic and Rubin Statham.
Erakovic lost a three hour epic to Chinas Yafan Wang 6-7(5) 6-4 3-6 with the second set taking 72 minutes.
The Chinese player ranked 163rd had 24 break point opportunities on Erakovics serve and was successful with eight of them. Erakovic ranked 113 managed eight breaks of Wangs serve out of 16 opportunities.
Erakovic had four aces and 14 double faults and at times struggled with her first serve percentage.
Meanwhile Rubin Statham came close in his first set with the 191st ranked Duckhee Lee from Korea.
Statham ranked 431 who won a wildcard as a result of winning an event in the US lost 6-7(3) 3-6 in one hour 31 minutes. Statham won three break points, Lee achieved four with the first set very competitive and the second just a few more points going the way of the Korean.
Michael Venus, Marcus Daniell and Artem Sitak all play their doubles main draw matches next week. The tournament starts August 29 and has the mens final September 11.
