Defending champion Janina Wickmayer today made it through to the semifinals of the ASB Classic tennis tournament in Auckland by beating unseeded Romanian Simona Halep 6-0 6-2.
The No 2 seeded Belgian spend just over an hour on a windy centre court to set up a meeting with the winner of the match between China's Shuai Peng and British qualifier Heather Watson.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, Halep had plenty of opportunities, twice having Wickmayer 0-40 down on serve but was unable to convert.
In all, through a combination of good shotmaking and her opponent's unforced errors, Wickmayer saved eight of the nine break points against her.
