Matosevic's poor effort in a dead rubber against South Korea in April cost him a place in the Australia's loss to Germany in their world group play-off in September.
In that world group play-off Tomic's efforts were questioned by both Davis Cup captain Pat Rafter and veteran Davis Cup coach Tony Roche.
The former Wimbledon quarter-finalist's performances at the US Open this year also came under the spotlight amid accusations of tanking in a match against Andy Roddick.
Tomic slipped from a world ranking of 27 in June to 52 at season's end this year.
