New Zealand's Adam Thompson will try to reach the last round of qualifying for the Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland this morning.
The world number 871 was a shock winner in the opening round of qualifying yesterday, advancing past France's Anthony Dupuis who is ranked nearly 800 places higher.
Thompson held his serve and nerve to win the first set on a tie break and his opponent was then forced to withdraw at the start of the second due to back problems.
Thompson will now face Gilles Muller from Luxembourg early today, who beat another kiwi, GD Jones, 6-3 7-5 in the first round of qualifying.
The other New Zealander trying to win through to the main draw, Daniel King Turner, also went down yesterday 6-4 3-6 6-7(4) to South Africa's Wesley Moodie.
