New Zealand's Rubin Statham is through to the final round of qualifying at the US$50,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Honolulu after beating Korea's Suk Jeong 6-2 6-4 yesterday.
He will take on third seeded American Kevin Kim, who has a world ranking of 426, for a place in the main draw.
Fellow Kiwis Artem Sitak and Dan King-Turner were both beaten in three sets in their second-round qualifying matches. Sitak went down to Zimbabwe's Takanyi Garanganga 5-7 6-3 6-4 and King-Turner was beaten by Chris Rungkat (Indonesia) 6-3 3-6 6-0.
In the doubles qualifying, Heineken Open doubles semifinalists King-Turner and Michael Venus beat Rong Ma (China) and Wei-Yu Su (Taipei) 6-4 6-0.
Venus is in the main singles draw with a first-round match against former top 100 player Robert Kendrick.
