England cricket captain Andrew Strauss dropped by at Wimbledon on day two to discuss serving technique (of strawberries and cream, not the tennis variety) and his past Wimbledon experiences.
Strauss told the BBC: "The last time I was here I was working in the catering department as a sort of emergency fill-in for a few days."
He worked at the Championships serving strawberries and cream to finance his "student exploits" as a 19-year-old at Durham University. Strauss and his England teammates have since made the step up from student living and were on hand at the Royal Box to witness Roger Federer's dismantling of Mikhail Kukushkin.
Federer was in imperious form and received a standing ovation from the crowd after a seemingly effortless performance.
"My game is somewhat casual, but in a good way, because I had to work on my casualness," he explained.
Serena Williams also played on Centre Court and claimed an emotional victory over Aravane Rezai, making her comeback after a "disaster year" of injuries.
Marina Erakovic is through to the next round after taking down Kai-Chen Chang from Taiwan. She'll face a tougher test next in the form of Daniela Hantuchova. There were also solid starts for world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova and Li Na. Jelena Jankovic was knocked out by Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in two hours and twenty minutes.
As expected, there was to be no repeat of the 11-hour Isner-Mahut epic from 2010. The American prevailed in straight sets this time, winning 7-6, 6-2, 7-6. Last year, the pair used 123 balls (41 cans) in their first-round battle. This time only 24 were needed.
Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick had routine victories, but Juan Martin Del Potro could be a dark horse to watch. The big Argentine is looking dangerous in his comeback from injury and easily beat Italy's Flavio Cipolla 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
It was a mixed bag for the Aussies last night. ATP veteran Lleyton Hewitt overcame a foot injury and his creaking limbs to defeat Kei Nishikori, while Bernard Tomic also progressed. Samantha Stosur wasn't so lucky and made the early exit.
