New Zealand came from behind to win the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania group two semifinal tennis tie 3-2 against Pakistan at Hawera today.
Behind 1-2 after losing yesterday's doubles, New Zealand won both of the reverse singles to book a berth in the group final against either Thailand or Indonesia in September.
New Zealand No 1 Rubin Statham ensured the tie would go the distance by winning the first of the reverse singles 6-2 6-1 6-3 against Aisam Qureshi.
Cup debutant Austen Childs then sealed the outcome with a 6-1 6-3 6-3 win over Aqeel Khan.
The opening singles were shared on Friday before Pakistan won yesterday's doubles to gain the initiative.
