The New Zealand Fed Cup women's tennis team has finished third overall at the Asia/Oceania Group II in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The team beat the Philippines in the playoff against the second placed team in the other pool for third and fourth position in the 11-team competition.
Abigail Guthrie and Emily Fanning both won their singles matches in straight sets to give the Kiwi side an unbeatable 2-0 victory. The doubles was not played.
The Kiwi team was looking on-course for promotion back to Asia/Oceania Group II but was hampered when it lost Marina Erakovic who has returned to New Zealand after a thumb injury when she fell in the tournament hotel.
Results:
New Zealand beat Philippines 2-0.
