The Scottish teenager lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in a hard fought contest.
Seeded players had their way earlier in the day too. Second seed David Ferrer of Spain beat the Netherlands' Raemon Sluiter 6-4 6-3.
Seventh seed Jarkko Nieminen from Finland won by the same scores against American Paul Goldstein.
Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka beat Alberto Martin of Spain 6-2 6-2.
