New Zealander Emily Fanning has responded to her first-round singles loss in the US Open juniors with a doubles victory.
Fanning, a 17-year-old from Timaru, was beaten in the first round of singles by 13th seed Ana Konjuh of Croatia 6-1 6-1, but won her first round doubles with Anett Kontaveit from Estonia when the pair combined to beat Canadian Marika Akkerman and Victoria Rodriquez of Mexico 6-2 6-2.
Fanning and Konjuh next play the fourth-seeded American pair of Taylor Townsend and Gabrielle Andrews.
