KEY POINTS:
New Zealand number one Marina Erakovic has shown she can foot it at the top level, despite bowing out of the French Open last night.
Her Paris campaign is over, but it was an encouraging performance from Erakovic who was playing against world number three Jelena Jankovic for the first time, in their second round singles match.
The young New Zealander should have taken the match to a third and deciding set, but nerves got the better of her serving for the second set at 6-5 and she then blew a 5-3 lead in the tie break to allow the third seeded Serbian to advance 6-2, 7-6.
Jankovic, who struggled with a sore arm at times, is heaping praise on Erakovic, saying she played a solid match and really troubled her at times. She says Erakovic's serve really troubled her and she expects to see a lot more of Erakovic in the future.
Erakovic and her partner Michaela Krajicek have lost their first round doubles match in straight sets.
It is now on to the grass court season for Erakovic, culminating in Wimbledon next month.
Elsewhere at Roland Garros, it has been a day of upsets with sixth seed David Nalbandian and seventh seed James Blake out of the men's draw and local hope Amelie Mauresmo gone from women's action.
However Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have advanced to round three as have Venus Williams and Elena Dementieva.
