Michael Venus has won the battle of the Kiwis in the first round of the doubles at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto.
The world number 19 and his South African partner Raven Klaasen have beaten Kiwi Artem Sitak and Greek Next gen star Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour 1.
Venus and Klaasen will face the 5th seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in the second round tomorrow.
A couple of hours before the match Sitak found out he was in the main draw after signing in as an alternate with the rising Greek star who is ranked 25 in singles.
Venus and Klaasen's original opponents Steve Johnson and Hyeon Chung pulled out due to their singles commitments as did another team and Sitak got in for his Masters 1000 debut.
