Michael Venus has fallen just short of becoming the first New Zealander to win two grand slam tennis titles in the same year.
The French Open doubles champion has teamed up with Taipei's Hao-Ching Chan to finish runner up in the Mixed Doubles at the US Open in New York.
Venus and Chan, seeded third have been beaten by top seeds, Swiss legend Martina Hingis and Britain's Jamie Murray6-1, 4-6 and 10-8 in the Super tiebreak in the final on the Arthur Ashe Stadium centre court at Flushing Meadows.
Venus and Chan made a sluggish start, dropping serve early and never able to get a foothold in the opening set.
