After such a hard fought battle in the opening set, the second started off badly for Erakovic, being broken in the first game and from there it was going to be a long way back.
She wasn't able to achieve it, but she did manage to break the Romanian's serve midway through the set.
"I think my serve let me down in that second set," she lamented.
"I wasn't able to hit my targets and maybe that's just because a lot of balls came back and I lost my rhythm.
"It was tough and I did give myself a chance, that's all you can ask for.
"Looking back on the last 20 days, it's been positive and I've got a lot of good matches under my belt.
"I've got through tight situations, I feel like I've mentally handled things very well."
If there's an area of the game that let Erakovic down the most in the second set it was her serve.
She got in just 46 per cent of first serves and only won two of the 15 points on her second serve.
"My first serve percentage was probably low and that's tough," she said.
"I probably double faulted a few more times than I should have (five in all) and she started to run around that forehand and hit it, she likes the return on her forehand.
"The difference was that she was moving well and getting a lot more balls back than I've been used to and I probably should have been more aggressive than I was."
Two times champion Petra Kvitova has advanced with a straight sets win along with men's defending champion Andy Murray and fourth seed Rafael Nadal.
But top Aussie hope Nick Kyrgios has retired with a hip injury after losing the first two sets of his match.
