It's been a disappointing day for Kiwi doubles players Marcus Daniell and Artem Sitak at the US tennis Open in New York.
The duo have both lost to seeded teams in the second round. Daniell and his Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof have been well beaten by 4th seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares. The British and Brazilian combination were clinical and a break in each set was enough to close out a comfortable victory 6-3 6-4 in 1 hour 12.
Sitak and his Indian partner Divij Sharan followed Daniell and Koolhof on court and although they put up a strong fight, succumbed 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in 1 hour 35 to the 7th seeds Poland's Lukasz Kubot and Brazil's Marcelo Melo.
Games went with serve until the 6th game when Kubot and Melo converted their fourth break point chance of the game to break Sharan. They held comfortably to take the set in 33 minutes. However Sitak and Sharan turned things around in the second set and broke Kubot in the 4th game and went on to force a deciding 3rd set.
But the Kiwi/Indian combination couldn't maintain their level as Kubot and Melo struck in the second game with some superb returning to break Sharan for a second time, this time to love. There was no way back for Sitak and Sharan.
