KEY POINTS:
Dan King-Turner received a late Christmas present when he managed to avoid all of the big guns and has a first-round match against a qualifier for this week's Heineken Open.
With a world ranking of 458, however, a favourable draw does not guarantee the 22-year-old a route into the second round considering he's likely to be up against a player ranked higher than him.
The Kiwi No 1 won't know his opponent until tomorrow. If he progresses, King-Turner is likely to meet defending champion and his new doubles partner Jarkko Nieminen, who takes on tricky Belgian Olivier Rochus. King-Turner and Nieminen have a wildcard into the doubles.
Top seed Tommy Robredo will play Spanish compatriot Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo but is in line to meet exciting Frenchman Gael Monfils in the second round.
On the other side of the draw, second seed Mario Ancic will open against a qualifier, while third seed David Ferrer will meet 2004 French Open champion Gaston Gaudio.
Only one of the seven Kiwis who started qualifying yesterday are still alive, with Rubin Statham.
Statham beat Spaniard Pablo Andujar 4-6 6-3 6-2.
