KEY POINTS:
German Philipp Kohlschreiber beat former world No 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero to win the Heineken Open tennis tournament in Auckland.
Kohlschreiber took a tiebreaker to win the first set 7-6 and then converted his first match point to seal the title 7-5 in 1 hour 55 minutes.
The German had been more error-prone but hit some good winners, while Ferrero looked sharp and was perhaps unlucky with a few line calls.
It is the second ATP Tour title victory for Kohlschreiber, 24, who was rated 31 in the world coming into today's match.
Both players looked in good form and should take plenty of confidence into the Australian Open next week.
