More doubles success for New Zealand tennis players with Marcus Daniell and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner defeating Swedes Johan Brunstrom and Andreas Siljestrom 7-6(6) 6-4 at the ATP tournament in Gstaad, Switzerland.
The win means Daniell will now face off against his Rio Olympics partner Michael Venus in the quarter-finals.
Top seeds Venus and Croatian Mate Pavic had won their first round match against a Russian pair the previous day.
Meanwhile at the ATP event in Umag, Croatia fellow Kiwi Artem Sitak and American Nicholas Monroe as second seeds are into the quarter-finals after a straight set win over a local pairing in the first round.
In singles Rubin Statham has fought through qualifying and then won a rain delayed first round match at the US$50.000 Binghampton Challenger in New York.
Statham beat the seventh seed Guilherme Cleazar from Brazil ranked 200 by the score 6-7(2) 7-5 6-4 and will now face Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan in the second round
Earlier Lucky Loser Finn Tearney was defeated in the first round of the main draw by the sixth seed Darin King from Barbados in three sets.
Statham and Tearney had clashed in the final round of qualifying with Statham prevailing in over three hours in three sets.
