It wasnt quite the finish to a good tournament that Michael Venus and Croatian doubles partner Mate Pavic wanted as they were defeated in the final of the ATP Stockholm event this morning by an inspired local pairing.
Venus and Pavic were defeated by the talented young duo of Elias and Mikael Ymer, the first home team to win the doubles at the tournament since 1998. They were on fire from the start of the match breaking serve in the second game and saving all seven break points against them for the 6-1 6-1 win in 55 minutes.
Venus and Pavic have won four ATP doubles titles this year - Auckland, Montpellier, Marseille and s-Hertogenbosch and have now been finalists at four tournaments; Metz, Gstaad, Nice and Stockholm..
Venus will play his final ATP tournament of the year this week at the rich ATP 500 Swiss Indoors event in Basel where he will team up with Swedens Robert Lindstedt.
