New Zealand Davis Cup tennis player Dan King-Turner has scored one of the best wins of his career with a three-set victory over former top-15 player and 2005 US Open semifinalist Robby Ginepri this morning (Fri, NZT) at the US$50,000 Binghampton Challenger in New York.
King-Turner has been in good form of late, winning a Futures tournament in Canada, however his win over Ginepri, who is seeded fifth with a current ranking of 187 in two hours two minutes 6-7(2) 6-4 6-4 with 20 aces to his credit, will be a highlight for his career which not so long ago was doubtful with nagging injuries.
King-Turner managed to break Ginepri's serve twice out of the five break points he had. While Ginepri had four break points on King-Turner's serve but could not convert any of them.
In the quarter-finals King-Turner will now face American Rhyme Williams who earlier defeated top seed Dudi Sella from Israel.
The Kiwi also has a first-round doubles match to play where he has teamed up with Frenchman Gleb Sakharov. They play Brit Jamie Baker and American Christian Harrison in their match.
